Dr. Shae Wissell Presents at Ozwater25 on Neurodiversity in the Water Sector
We were proud to have our Director, Dr. Shae Marie Wissell, represent re:think dyslexia at the prestigious Ozwater25 Conference in Adelaide. Dr. Wissell presented on the importance of recognising and supporting neurodivergent employees in the workplace—particularly those with dyslexia, within the water sector.
Her session focused on how organisations can harness the strengths of dyslexic individuals by creating inclusive work environments that promote psychological safety and offer tailored, on-the-job training. A key takeaway was the opportunity for employers to access government support through JobAccess, enabling practical and funded adjustments that remove barriers to success.
Dr. Wissell was joined by a dynamic panel of industry leaders, including Michael Krome from Australian Spatial Analytics, and Merryn Bailey and Tiani Zollo Semmler from SA Water. The panel discussion, expertly facilitated by Dr. Annalisa Contos, sparked thoughtful dialogue on building more inclusive and effective teams by better supporting neurodivergent employees and their colleagues.
The enthusiasm and curiosity of the attendees were evident, with over 100 participants engaging in meaningful conversations about how to foster workplace cultures that value diverse thinking and inclusive leadership.
At re:think dyslexia, we’re committed to helping organisations across industries understand, support, and empower neurodivergent individuals to thrive at work. We’re grateful to the Ozwater25 organisers for the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation.
