A Neuroinclusive Morning in Hobart with

Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management

We were thrilled to have our director Dr Shae Wissell , deliver a powerful session on Dyslexia in the Workplace with the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management in Hobart recently.

Shae’s s session focused on building understanding and capability in supporting neurodivergent employees, particularly those in high-pressure, frontline roles. With a mix of research, lived experience, and practical strategies, she explored how we can create more neuroinclusive training environments, shift workplace culture, and provide meaningful support for neurodivergent first responders.

Topics covered included:

  • Understanding neurodivergence, including dyslexia,

  • The hidden impacts of undiagnosed or unsupported neurodivergence

  • Strengths-based approaches to team inclusion a

  • Designing reasonable adjustments and communication strategies that support retention and performance

It was a fantastic morning of meaningful conversation, reflection, and collaboration. We’re incredibly grateful to the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management for their commitment to inclusion and for leading the way in recognising the value of neurodiversity in their workforce.
